How to dramatically change the feel of your home—without breaking the bank.

Perhaps you’re dreaming of a major home remodel or moving to your dream home. But if that’s not quite in the cards yet, you can still make some smaller adjustments today. Any one of these changes could have a dramatic impact on your ambiance, comfort level, and experience at home, without breaking the bank.

The secret: upgrade or swap out some of the electrical elements in your home.

No need to be intimidated—a qualified professional can (and should) take care of any of these tasks for you. Just sit back, relax, and let the inspiration spark some ideas.

If your home doesn’t feel homey: Swap out your light bulbs.

Whether you notice or not, the type and quality of light in a room makes a huge impact. New research from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University underscores how ambient light can impact emotions, how you think, and even how you behave. Changing your lighting is an easy way to change the ambiance of a room.

If you’re feeling anxious, try swapping out harsh fluorescents for softer light like the trendy-yet-old-fashioned Edison bulbs, which are now available in energy-saving LED variations.   Recessed lighting on a dimmer switch allows you to turn up the brightness on a gloomy day or turn it down to soft and cozy for an evening at home with friends.

If your home feels stuffy: Install a ceiling fan.

Whether or not you have air conditioning in your home, a ceiling fan can seriously upgrade your experience. Moving air around makes any space feel more comfortable. Ceiling fans can also help you save on energy bills—and they’re not just useful in the summer. In the winter, many ceiling fans can reverse their direction in order to encourage the circulation of warmer air.

If your home feels too small: Add outdoor lighting.

Nothing makes your home feel bigger than extending it to the outdoors, and one of the best ways to do that is to add outdoor lighting to create an inviting space. Uplighting can have a dramatic, upscale effect. String lights create a soft, fairytale-like quality. Tailor your lighting strategy to your space.

You don’t need a fancy deck, porch, or patio to pull this off. Installed correctly, a few strategically placed lights, a couple of chairs (and perhaps a mosquito-repelling candle!) can help you take full advantage of summer and add a whole new “room” to your house.

These are just a few of the lower-cost solutions you can use to help you fall in love with the home you have now. Here’s to enjoying the best season yet in a place that feels just right. Remember—with any electrical work, it’s important to call in a licensed professional to do the job. The experts at Bonfe are ready to help.

Are your smoke detectors up to date?

Did you know that the average lifespan of smoke and CO2 detectors is ten years? It’s important to test regularly and replace them before they stop working. We can help. Call us today!
